SEGA teases new Arcade IP and perhaps NEW Arcade board at JAEPO/AOU 2016, recent interview with President suggests SEGA possibly getting on board with the Dreamcast 2 proposal.

A follower of mine on Google Plus, shared this teaser SEGA posted on their site: http://am-show.sega.jp/jaepo16/countdown/

Keep in mind, JAEPO/AOU is a Japanese Amusement Tradeshow in Tokyo and is the biggest in all of Asia. So with it being AOU related, its certainly not only a teaser for a new Arcade game(likely a card game) it certainly also indicates SEGA could be finally upgrading its Ring series line for the first time in 4 years.

Also, there was an interview with Sega Holdings' CEO Haijime Satomi:

http://www.theworldfolio.com/interviews/segas-new-era-in-entertainment/3891/

Sega Sammy Holdings is SEGA Holdings,Co,Ltd, because SH is not yet open for public trading, SS is still referred to as the investment group.

This line in the translated interview jumped straight out at me:

"Question: How are you going to rebuild the Sega brand and how long do you think that is going to take?

Satomi: As I said before, the Sega brand first became famous as an arcade machine and then with the home video game consoles. The Sonic character was largely popular with those machines and consoles. Unfortunately, we eventually withdrew from the home video game console business. However, our name and brand is still out there because of the famous characters from people’s childhood. We would like to change, adjust or shift our product, brand and business with the current era to be a leader again in the future."

Translation: We want to get back into the hardware business and are willing to change our business structure to do so.

Now to be fair, this interview likely is a few weeks old. But even so, if it isn't(and if Satomi is actually aware of the Dreamcast 2 proposal) then this is a subtle "Yes" to the idea. If this interview is a few weeks old, then this line reiterates what Satomi stated in Famitsu last summer: "Sega in the 90s was known for its "brand", but after that, we've lost trust and we left with nothing but a 'reputation" we'd like to win back the customer's trust and become a "brand" once again."

SEGA hasn't forgotten us, they knows its REAL,TRUE fans are still out there.

    1. "Sonic Crisis" was one of the working titles considered for the game when it started development on 360/Xenon in late 2004. The name was being considered because again at the time, they were considering porting it to Sega Lindbergh. The other working title was "Sonic Xbox". After Sony brought co-licensing to the game, SEGA had no choice but to just use the generic "Sonic The Hedgehog" which help prevent the IP from being brought by Sony or MS.

    2. I see. Well thanks for answering my question on the every clouded development project sonic the hedgehog/sonic crisis/sonic xbox.
in response to the article though i agree with a comment i read in ultimate justice returns google+ account that SEGA is like the area 51 of gaming hardly anyone knows what they're doing unless they (like you for example) dig deep in the archives of the internet or a figure higher up on those projects that are directly involved in it so i appreciate the amounts of evidence you can possibly find on SEGA.Also i can hardly wait to see the website you're working on. so good luck.

    5. well sometime during september I was bored and decided to see if there were any confirmation on the dreamcast 2 when i came across a video with what a guy hoped for, for the dreamcast 2 when i scrolled down the comments to find a post which if i remember has been deleted which gave a comment to see the truth of the dreamcast 2 and gave a link to show the proof from what i remember talked about something called n pro? from the guy that made the original genesis so i decided to click the link and see for myself and the post was yours (the hero of all at the time) and it was 8 different reasons that the dreamcast 2 is happening since then i've read yours and tornado1994's posts though the picture with still thinking(with the words "welcome to the next level") already hooked me up on the hype train

    9. hey no problem i just wish there were more people who would believe the dreamcast 2 is happening i mean i don't know what kind of scars false rumors had made that if someone were to mention dreamcast 2 they'd get shunned publicly even if all evidence is on their odds.On a side note remember that post SEGA Europe made in response to sa3 like this ''no news on that for now!''. i think that maybe sa3 is their next game or a least in thought. what do you think ?

    13. though I think personally that SEGA would make something widely rumored and most wanted dreamcast 2 be revealed in e3 since its the biggest game convention ,though thats just me

  4. So, how are the chances of the Cyclone being this new arcade board?

    1. I doubt it. I believe Cyclone's Arcade counterpart is likely going to be a NAOMI 3 since SEGA is back to protecting its name.

    2. Have they protected other arcade board's names? If not, you might be onto something.
Btw, I've been following you since you posted about "Sega Orbi Enterprises". Were you just wrong about it and/or not too experienced with trademarks then?

  6. Here's Masami Ishikawa's old 2013 interview: http://www.siliconera.com/2013/09/18/segas-original-hardware-developer-talks-about-the-companys-past-consoles/

  7. @Ctoan. Yes. I still didn't know alot about Trademarks then and still didn't know enough about Intellectual Property in 2012-2013. I assumed that it would be a multibrand without realizing in order to do so, it would have been filed under the 66A Madrid.

"ORBI" was filed under 44b "Intent To Use" which takes a few years to be used in commerce because a Section 8 can be filed within 5 years of registration.

Orbi wasn't filed in the WIPO, therefore, SEGA went through the tedious process of it going through the US Trademark Office courts and process. Which under 44b takes up to 18 long months.

Regarding the other Arcade names, Lindbergh,RingEdge, and RingWide are all protected and registered. Lindbergh though is no longer being supported. The "Nu" is suspended due to SEGA facing a legal dispute regarding the word.

    1. Great to hear that you can admit you were wrong. Other Sega sites kind of have the wrong idea of you imo. Anyway, Lindbergh is protected and registered but no longer supported? I don't get it.

    2. SEGA is still protecting Lindbergh's name. But they are no longer using the name in commerce because they abandoned the Arcade line in favor of RingWide in 2010.
